Interesting Places to visit in Terengganu


1.      Pulau Redang
Among one of famous island in Terengganu. Not much people residing on this island. Main economy source for local people is from fishing industries and tourism. Pulau Redang accessible by ferry from Kuala Terengganu. There is a small air field for private jets landing, however, very rarely been used.
Who ever plan to visit here, advised to plan trips early, because this island will be restricted for public visit during monsoon seasons. Best time to visit here is from March to August.

2.      Pulau Perhentian
Among must visit island in the world. Yes, trust me. You won't regret when visit to this island. Accessible by boat from Tok Bali Jetty at Kuala Besut, Besut. It took about 40 minutes speed boat ride to reach here. The ticket price will be around RM70-80 / per person (including return trip). It’s advisable to get tickets from proper counters to make sure your return trip is guarantee your return trip. Otherwise, you will need to pay more to local boat operator to send you back to the mainland.
Pulau Perhentian popular for deep sea diving and best snorkeling spot in this region. There are two different islands called as Perhentian Besar (Big Perhentian Island)  and Perhentian Kecil (Small Perhentian Island). Perhentian Besar mostly with exclusive resorts with private beach. Perhentian Kecil will be an ideal place for backpacker travelers and those who looking for a budget trip. Varieties of chalet and small hotels available here. However, the price will be expensive during peak seasons. Same goes for the foods. A lot of variety food available here from western menu, Italian, Asian and local deserts.
At night, the real celebration will start. Loud music will be played at beach side. People will gather, dancing, drinking and have fun.

3.      Pulau Kapas
A small island located at Marang District. Not much activity here. But a lot of people will visit this island from June to August for 'chandat sotong' (squid jigging) festival.
4.      Pasar Payang
It's a well known shopping area in Kuala Terengganu. Must visit shopping area. Able to get a lot of souvenirs at a good price. There are numbers of batik seller here. Batik Terengganu among top grade batik in the world. So don't miss the opportunity to buy one here.
Few fish fritters shops also available here. This fish fritters famous among Malaysian but I'm rarely seeing foreigners by Keropok here.
5.      Masjid Terepung / Floating Mosque
Among famous landmark here in Terengganu. Build with the cost of RM6 Million. It's built in the middle of Terengganu river and there for adopting the name floating mosque. This also serves as famous tourist spot, especially among Muslim brothers. Beside this, there is a mosque museum in walking distance from here. World famous mosques replicas build here. There is RM15 entrance fee to enter this area.
6.      Keropok Losong, Gong Badak
You will be surprised if you need to get printed number and wait in queue to get your fish fritters here. They are really famous fish fritters seller in this area. Variety of fish fritters available here. Located at Gong Badak toward to Terengganu Airport. People will stop by here to do final purchasing before take off from Terengganu.
7.      Lake Kenyir (Tasik Kenyir)
If you like to stay at a resort that built right middle of a lake, then this is the correct place to go. Tasik Kenyir is one of the biggest man made lake in the world. It is located in Hulu Terengganu District, Terengganu. There are no public transport options for you to reach this place. 
People came from all over the world to feel the stay at this resort. However, my honest comment is, don't expect comfort stay at this resort. It's built in the middle of the rain forest jungle and surrounded by huge man made lake. Therefore, don't expect 5 star resort stay. 
I'm pretty sure for those who like to put themselves closer to nature will appreciate the stay here. You can feel the jungle and the lake environment throughout your stay. 
Another tip, there is no need to spend much on tour guide. Explore yourself for better natural views based on pamphlets and jungle tracking path.


Hotel's In Terengganu

There are few good hotel that I will recommend to be considered:
  1. Hotel Grand Continental, Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia
    • Located in the center of Kuala Terengganu town. About 20 minutes walking distance to Pulau Redang Jetty. 
  2. Hotel Ming Star, Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia
    • Suitable for those who looking for a budget stay. About 10 minutes walking distance to Pulau Redang Jetty. Easy access to local bus station and restaurants. 
  3. Ri-Yaz Heritage Resort and Spa, Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia
    • Suitable for those who like world class stay. Very near to Floating Mosque. Difficult to find public transport from here. You need to depend on hotel transit or taxi. 
  4. Redang Beach Resort, Redang Island, Malaysia
    • Should be an ultimate choice for those who like to visit Pulau Redang (Redang Island).
  5. Perhentian Island Resort, Kuala Besut, Malaysia
    • Ideal option while traveling in Pulau Perhentian (Perhentian Island)
